Brutalist Dinner Set

"Brutalist Dinner Set" began as a lockdown endeavour, where I ventured into the convergence of 3D printing technology and traditional crafting techniques. With a modified 3D printer at my disposal, I wanted to see if it was possible to print moulds for casting a concrete dinner set—aiming to capture the stark and powerful essence of brutalist design in everyday objects.

Although the results weren't as successful as hoped, they were nonetheless intriguing. The most notable piece, a singular concrete mug, stood as a testament to the experiment. The rigidities of FDM printing meant the mould was almost inseparable from the cast without damage, revealing the challenges of marrying 3D printing with such unforgiving materials.

This project, albeit with its hurdles, paved the way for further exploration into slip casting for ceramics. Moving away from the unyielding nature of concrete, I found a more accommodating medium in clay. This shift led to the creation of a line of ceramic smoke-ware, which you can explore further here .
